Chapter 5

I stretched and felt my hand connect with something. Seconds later I heard a muffled “Ow” coming from beneath the covers. I became more aware of my surroundings, and felt something draped across my stomach, and something next to me. I opened my eyes and was looking right at Isaac, who was rubbing the side of his head. “Oh! Did I hit you?”

“Yeah.”

“I am so sorry babe.” I said, kissing his lips softly. He smiled sleepily and wiggled closer to me. He wrapped his arms around me and held me tightly against him. “Well good morning.”

“Shhh. It's sleepy time.” He mumbled against the top of my head. I giggled and poked his stomach. “Ooof. What was that for?” He asked, drawing back a bit.

“It's 12:30, I know Amber will be coming in here any time soon to wake me up.” I said. Isaac shrugged and pulled me closer again. He rubbed his hands over my back.

“Neither of us have anything to do today. Let's just stay here all day.” He pulled the blankets over our heads. Just as I predicted, I heard my door open. I heard Amber walk across the room to my bed. She yanked the blankets down and yelped.

“Whoa! Sorry again guys!” She said, backing off. I started laughing hysterically.

“I told you we should get up.” I said, poking Isaac. He rolled over onto his back and stretched. Amber smiled at me. “Shut up Amber. I know what you're thinking, and no. No no no.” I said, sitting up beside Isaac. “C'mon, let's get some breakfast.” I said, climbing over him and out of my bed. He stood up and followed me down to the kitchen. Amber leaned over my shoulder while I was in the fridge.

“Sorry about last night.” She whispered. I chuckled.

“It's okay. Don't worry about it girl.” I pulled out the orange juice.

“Did you guys fuck?” She asked lowly. I rolled my eyes.

“No, I already told you that when you walked in. I knew you were wondering. No, we didn't fuck last night. We probably would have if you hadn't come downstairs.”

“Good thing I did.” She muttered. I had a bad tendency to have sex with guys, and get attached quickly, and always get hurt. I poured 3 glasses of OJ, and sat down at the table. I looked from Amber to Isaac, and back again. I could feel that awkward tension setting in. Sure, it was fine for Isaac and I to share a bed last night, but to wake up, and realize, in the light of day what happened, made it rather weird. After we finished our OJ and bagels, Isaac came back down fully dressed and announced he had to leave to take care of some things back at his place, and should go into the studio today and finish up some work before Monday. I showed him out.

“Bye Isaac.” I said, as I opened the door for him.

“Bye Jackie. I'll call you sweet heart.” He said, and kissed my cheek. I shut the door and rolled my eyes.

“I'll call you sweet heart.” I mimicked in a stupid voice. “I'm sure you will.” I muttered, and trudged back into the kitchen. Amber was still sitting at the table, leafing through the newspaper. I reached into the fridge and grabbed a bottle of beer. I pried off the top and chugged a good ¾ of it down.

“Problems?” She asked, looking at me.

“You know what the problem is. It's HIM.”

“No lovey-dovey goodbye I see? What was it? The “I had fun, I'll call you sometime” line?” She asked.

“Close enough. It was the “Bye, I'll call you insert pet-name” line. I knew it would be a one night thing, so why did I let it happen?” I put my head down on the table. “I feel like a slut.” I mumbled. Amber laughed a little.

“Jackie, you're not a slut. Just a bad judge of character. I keep telling you, stay with the people you know. Don't go chasing after so long-since-dead dream.”

“Excuse me?! Who was the one who pushed for me to have dinner with him in the first place?” I said, exasperated.

“Well, that was before I read this.” She said, pushing a magazine in front of me. “Open it to page 117. The spread.” I opened the magazine and read the headline.

Isaac Hanson, Tying the last Knot
Famous rock star and record producer Isaac Hanson announced 2 days ago that he would wed long time girlfriend Kelly Rose, in a matter of months. Rose and Hanson have been together for 2 years, under wraps, so as not to endure hassle from the public.  Rose and Hanson live togther-

I slammed the magazine shut and threw it across the room. Amber jumped as I slammed my hands down on the counter. I stood up quickly, causing my chair to fly backwards. I stomped up to my room and slammed my stereo on. I punched the play button on my cd player, and the blaring sounds of Crazy Town filled my room. I turned it up even louder. Loud, hard music calms me down and helps me think. I sat at my desk and looked down at the blank pad of paper in front of me. Before I knew it, a tear and fallen and splattered on the clean white page. I couldn't believe it. I had fallen for him before I even knew what was going on. It's okay though, because I had found out before anything major had happened. Who the hell did he think he was! I was going to set this straight, and get my revenge. I got up from the desk and get dressed. I pulled on a pair of patched multi-colored corduroy pants, and a beige gauzy hippy-looking shirt that didn't quite cover my stomach. I pulled on my Birkenstocks, and grabbed my bag. I went back down to the kitchen and picked up the magazine.

“Where are you going?” Amber asked, looking at me confused. I smiled at her.

“I'm going to finish this.” I said in a sly voice, and headed out the door. I grabbed my helmet, put my bag over my head, and stuffed the magazine in the saddle bag and zoomed out of the driveway towards his studio. I headed up to the 6th floor. His secretary was sitting outside his office doors.

“Ms. Carter! Isaac isn't expecting you today! What does he owe this visit?” She asked, smiling.

“Personal business. Don't tell him I'm here.” I said, walking towards the doors. “Is he with anyone?” She shook her head. “Good.” I opened the doors and walked in. Isaac turned towards me in his chair.

“Jackie!” He stood up quickly and moved over to me. He wrapped his arms around my waist and leaned down to kiss me. I backed away. “What's wrong baby?” I pulled the magazine out and hit his chest with it. It fell down, open to the article. Isaac leaned down and picked it up. “Oh no.” He whispered.

“What the hell is this Isaac? You're engaged? What the fuck do you think you're doing here? Huh?” He was silent. “Answer me!” I yelled.

“I'm sorry. This article wasn't supposed to be printed. This is last month's magazine. Kelly informed the magazine that we were engaged. Not me. We weren't even engaged. We had talked about getting married, but I never proposed. After I read this article, we got into a big fight, and she left. This isn't real Jackie. Not anymore at least.” He said, looking down at me. I shook my head and glared at him.

“You are full of shit.” I said, turned, and walked out of the office. I hopped back on my bike, and zoomed away from the curb. All I heard were my tears, and the squeal.
