Chapter 8

I felt the tears in my eyes as I looked up at Isaac. I flung myself in his arms as the tears spilled over. I didn't know what I was crying about. It felt so nice to have his arms around me, and to hear him whispering comforts in my ear. I cried and cried, for the first time in a long time. Finally, the soft wind coming off the ocean in my hair brought me  back to reality. I backed away from Isaac. “I'm sorry, I don't know what all that was about.” I said, wiping the tears off my cheeks. I looked up, my eyes red, at Isaac. He was looking down with such a caring expression. “I'm sorry I never called. I didn't know what I would say. I was horrible to you.”

“It's okay Jackie. I would have done the same thing, had I found an article like that. I almost knocked Matt out when he said he was with you. The thought of him in your house, in your bed, it ripped me apart. We shared something special for one night, and I want that back.” He said. “I've never been good with ladies. Taylor's always been the charmer, Zac has always been the cuddly, warm one, and me, I was the brooding, fumbling one. I have no charisma when it comes to dating. I never did.” I smiled at his confession.

“Well, you certainly have a way with me.” I said in a soft, scratchy voice. He smiled.

“Would it be a terribly bad time to kiss you?” He asked shyly. I shook my head. He leaned down and pressed his soft lips against mine lightly, and pulled away. He traced a finger along my lips. “God, those lips. I love those lips.” He said, kissing me again. “Mmmmm.” He had his arm around my waist, and another hand tangled in my hair. “You have no idea what you do to me.” He whispered, kissing my neck. A thought suddenly popped into my head.

“What did you mean when you said Matt was in my bed?” I asked.

“Well, Matt said you two had been together. He was telling Taylor and I that you craved him.” He said. I snorted.

“Yeah, right. Matt and I never did anything. I don't even think I remember a time we actually kissed.” I told him quietly. He smiled again, and kissed my lips, harder this time. I felt a shiver run through my body as I felt Isaac's tongue graze my lips. I opened my mouth and his tongue entered almost immediately. We kissed for what seemed like an eternity. Our lips fit together like puzzle pieces. One of the last pieces that completed a puzzle. We broke the kiss reluctantly, and I laid my head against his chest. I felt him sigh as I wound my hands up around his neck and played with the short hair at the nape of his neck. I felt Isaac touch the bruise on the side of my face.

“I would never hurt you like that. I would never hurt you period.” He whispered, lightly running his fingers over the light purple bruise.

“I know Isaac, I know.” I whispered.

I woke the next morning and rolled over groggily. I smiled as the memories of the early morning came back. Isaac left at 5:00am, denying the offer to stay the night. He said Taylor was flying back to Chicago that afternoon. I looked at the clock, and the emotionless red numbers read 11:26. I lifted my head and sat up slowly. I rubbed my eyes and stretched, standing up at the same time. Multi-tasking in the morning, how wonderful. I headed down the back steps into the kitchen, where once again Phil was cooking, and Amber was reading a magazine at the counter. She smiled when I walked in.

“Morning sunshine.” She cooed. I smiled contentedly, and sat down on a stool beside her. “Why are you so happy?” she asked. “If what happened to you had been me, I'd be bitter and extremely bitchy right now.”

“I had the best night.” I sighed. Amber cocked an eyebrow. I explained to her what happened, and all that I was feeling. Phil stood smiling against the counter next to the stove, and Amber had a twinkle in her eye.

“It's about time you were happy Jackie. God knows you haven't been in the 5 years I've known you!” Phil said with a laugh. “We thought you'd be happy with Nick.”

“You guys!” I whined. “You know I wouldn't have been happy with Nick. I would have a few years ago, but Isaac, he makes me happy.” I said with a sigh. Amber giggled. “What?!”

“You can be so cute Jackie. You sound like me when I met Phil. Oh how the tables have turned.” She replied. I rolled my eyes.

“You guys are nuts. Nuts I tell you. Anyway, I should get ready for work. I told Chuk I would be there at 1:00 to help the bands set up.” I said, grabbing a cup of coffee and heading back upstairs. I got dressed and headed to the CD shop where I now worked. It was a fun place to work, and I had quickly became friends with everyone who worked there. Well, almost everyone. There was a redneck goth named Jason who tried to be cool, but wasn't. I walked in and dropped my purse behind the counter.

“Jesus Jackie! What the hell happened to you?” Debbie asked, looking at my face. I rolled my eyes.

“Remember that guy Matt?”

“He did that to you! What the fuck for?!” She yelled. Chuk came out of the back room.

“Holy shit girl!” He exclaimed.

“That guy Matt did that to her!” Debbie told him.

“Why?!”

“Apparently he thought we were an item, and last night at the party he saw me dancing with Chachi, got jealous and hit me. Chachi beat the shit out of him though.” I said.

“Well yeah! I would too if I was there.” Chuk said. That made me smile.

“Well, how was the rest of your night?” Debbie asked. I smiled warmly. “Uh-oh! Jackie got some ass last night!”

“No no. Nothing like that.” I proceeded to tell her the whole entire story of Isaac and I. By then end she was beaming. I sat on the stool behind the counter and chatted with Chuk and Debbie, while also doing the online ordering work. I loved working there.

“So, Jackie, when are we going to meet Isaac?” Debbie asked, always curious about my new guys. I smiled at her, my sly little smile. She only knew his name was Isaac. Not that he was Isaac Hanson.

“I think you might just die when I tell you who it is.”

“Why is that?”

“Debbie, you've known me for years! Well, remember how I used to be in love with Hanson when I was younger?” She nodded in response. “Well, Isaac is Isaac Hanson. He owns Indigo Productions, I met him when I was in the beginning of filming the movie that got canceled, because I wanted one of the guys signed to his label to act in the movie. I met him, and everything snowballed from there.”

“Oh my goodness Jackie!” She said laughing. “Chuk! Did you hear this?!” She yelled to Chuk who was in back. He came out bitching.

“That boy is a complete moron!” He said, shaking his head referring to Jason. I laughed, remembering me and Jason's slight history. He still hadn't forgiven me for when I punched him in the jaw 5 years ago. “He's fucking up the boards for the new shelving. How the hell are we going to get the new store looking right when he can't even cut wood!”

“I always told you he was an idiot Chuk. You never believed me though!” I said with a laugh. He pushed me off the stool good-naturedly. I laughed and climbed back up as Jason came out of the back. He gave me a dirty look and said something quietly to Chuk. I heard the door chime and I welcomed the customer without looking up from my work. I felt a hand run up my back. “I swear to god if that's Jason touching me I'm going to punch him again.” I said, the hand didn't stop rubbing my back. “Todd, you're not getting any from me.” The hand was still there. I lifted my head and turned around. It was Isaac! I squealed and leapt from the stool into his arms. He hugged me tightly and I pressed my lips hard against him. We engaged in a passionate kiss behind the counter. “What are you doing here?”

“I wanted to see you. Amber told me that this is where you worked. I missed you.” He said, kissing me again.

“You're crazy. Oh!” I rang the chime for Debbie to come out of the back office. She came out. “Debbie! This is Isaac.” She smiled.

“Nice to finally meet you Isaac.” She said welcoming him. “So you're Jackie's new squeeze eh?” Isaac laughed and nodded, leaning down to kiss me again. Just as he did, Chuk came out. Of course, that caused a riot. We all laughed and joked for around an hour. We sent Isaac next door to Subway for lunch soon after he came.

“Shouldn't you be down at the label babe?” I asked, sitting on his lap behind the counter. I kept getting dirty looks from Jason for doing that.

“Nah, they're just doing recording today. The producers are handling all that. I only go in when we have meetings or new signings. Otherwise, they can reach me on my phone if they need me.” Isaac said.

“That must be a nice job Isaac. You don't have to sit at the workplace all day, or get so stressed out.” Debbie said wistfully.

“Nah, it's still stressful. I wish it wasn't. This is the only way I keep my sanity, NOT being in the office.” He said.

“Jason, take the front. This is the way I keep MY sanity!” Chuk said, holding up a joint. I jumped off Isaac's lap as we followed Chuk into the back hallway. Everyone but Isaac smoked. I finally got him to take a couple of hits after the 2nd joint, and he got a little light-headed. I was stoned, as was Chuk and Debbie both. We went back out into the store and I turned off Jason's death metal and put on some Phish.

“What are you doing?!” Jason exclaimed as I pushed a Phish CD in. I turned and smiled as the sounds of Phish “Story of the Ghost” filled the store.

“Your music scares people. This is nice music.” I said with a nod, to confirm my statement. Jason rolled his eyes.

“You're a stoned bitch.” He mumbled. I grinned and leaned against Isaac. He laughed a little, which caused us all to laugh. Around 6:00 my work was done, and I clocked out. I headed outside and lit a cigarette. I inhaled deeply.

“So, who is that guy in there?” Isaac asked.

“Who, the redneck goth wannabe?” I asked. He nodded. “That would be Jason, an ex. He hates me because I can beat him up. A few years ago, when we went out, he cheated on me with my best friend, fucked her while I was in the room, so I crocked him in the jaw. I've got a hella right hook.” I said, smiling. “He's hated me ever since, because I humiliated him. I took another long drag from my cigarette and leaned against the window outside the store. Isaac moved to leaned up against me, and have me pinned against the window. He brought my hand that was holding my smoke up and took it from me. “Hey!” I exclaimed, thinking he was going to throw it away. He took a drag off of it and handed it back. He kissed my fiercely.

“Whoa! I don't need to see that outside the store!” I heard a voice exclaim. Isaac broke away quickly, and I saw Kip holding the door open, ready to go inside. “Jackie! What's up girl?”

“Hiya Kip.” I said, grinning. He smiled in return, laughed, and walked inside. I straightened up, put out my cigarette, and headed to my car. I tossed my bag in the back seat and fished my keys out of my pocket.

“Are you heading to the house?” He asked, leaning against the car door. I nodded and started the car. I was in the mustang today. Isaac said he's follow me, and I pulled out of the lot. I got on the freeway back towards the house and enjoyed the feel of the wind in my hair, as I always do. I turned the radio up, and DropShadow was on. They were awesome! I turned it up even louder and let the music take over my veins. It was such a wonderful, free feeling to let the music fill you.  I thought about everything that was going on during the 20 minute ride back to the house. What was going on with Isaac? I really felt something for him, but I wasn't sure what it was. He could be so intense. I was confused as to what I felt after last night. I loved how I felt in his arms, kissing his lips, his tongue in my mouth, just touching him in general, but something was wrong. My mind was arguing with the rest of my body. My body and possibly my heart were screaming Yes you fool! Why are you even doubting this! But my mind, it had reservations. Is this just a physical thing? Has it always been a physical thing? You barely know him. What are you doing Jackie?

Damn my mind. I pulled in the driveway and came to a conclusion as I watched Isaac park his car behind me and get out. I would give this whole thing a trial basis. I would take this slow, figure out where everything was going. No more rushing into love.
